Wyatt wiggled his toes in the warm sand, listening to the gentle whisper of the sea. The sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange, like a giant scoop of sherbet melting into the horizon.
“Time for bed, Wyatt,” called his mother from their beach house porch.
“But Mommy,” Wyatt protested, “the ocean is singing to me!”
His mother smiled and walked over to him. “What do you mean, sweetie?”
Wyatt closed his eyes and swayed back and forth. “Listen, Mommy. The waves are making music!”
His mother sat down beside him and closed her eyes too. “You’re right, Wyatt. It does sound like a song.”
As they sat there, the waves seemed to grow louder, their rhythm becoming clearer. Wyatt could almost hear words in the swooshing and splashing.
“Hush now, little one,” sang the waves. “Let your dreams take flight. We’ll watch over you all through the night.”
Wyatt’s eyes widened. “Did you hear that, Mommy?”
His mother looked puzzled. “I just hear the waves, sweetheart.”
But Wyatt knew what he’d heard. He stood up and walked closer to the water’s edge, his mother following close behind.
As his feet touched the cool water, Wyatt felt a tingling sensation. Suddenly, the world around him began to shimmer and change. The sand beneath his feet turned into a soft, fluffy cloud, and the ocean transformed into a sea of twinkling stars.
“Wow!” Wyatt gasped, looking around in wonder.
A friendly-looking dolphin with sparkling fins swam up to them through the starry sea. “Hello, Wyatt,” it said in a musical voice. “I’m Melody, the guardian of ocean dreams. Would you like to join us for the nightly lullaby?”
Wyatt nodded excitedly, and his mother, who could now see and hear everything too, smiled in amazement.
Melody led them through the star-ocean, where they saw all sorts of magical sea creatures preparing for bedtime. Octopuses were fluffing their pillows with their many arms, while schools of fish snuggled together in seaweed hammocks.
They arrived at a grand stage made of coral and pearls, where a group of sea animals was gathered. A wise old sea turtle stepped forward, tapping a conductor’s baton made of driftwood.
“Welcome, Wyatt and Wyatt’s mother,” the turtle said warmly. “You’re just in time for our nightly serenade. This is how we help all the creatures of the sea – and sometimes special visitors like you – drift off to sleep.”
The sea turtle raised his baton, and the ocean symphony began. Wyatt watched in awe as jellyfish strummed on string-like tentacles, crabs clicked their claws in rhythm, and whales sang deep, soothing notes.
The music filled the air, wrapping around Wyatt like a warm, cozy blanket. He felt his eyelids growing heavy as he swayed to the gentle melody.
🎵 “Drift along on waves of blue, Let your worries fade from view. Stars above and sand below, Sleep now as the tide ebbs low."🎵
As the song continued, Wyatt noticed other children appearing around them, all in their pajamas and looking sleepy but happy. They were visitors just like him, brought by the magic of the ocean’s lullaby.
The sea creatures sang verse after verse, each one more beautiful than the last. Wyatt snuggled close to his mother, feeling safe and peaceful.
🎵 “Seashells whisper, soft and sweet, Mermaids hum a lullaby treat. Close your eyes and rest your head, The ocean watches o’er your bed."🎵
As the final notes faded away, Wyatt felt himself drifting back to the real beach. The starry sea transformed back into regular waves, and the cloud beneath his feet became sand once more.
He looked up at his mother, who was smiling down at him. “That was magical, wasn’t it?” she said softly.
Wyatt nodded sleepily. “Can we come back tomorrow night?”
His mother picked him up, cradling him in her arms. “The ocean’s song is always here, sweetheart. Anytime you need it, just close your eyes and listen.”
As they walked back to the beach house, Wyatt could still hear the faint echoes of the sea creatures’ lullaby. He yawned, resting his head on his mother’s shoulder.
That night, as Wyatt lay in bed, he didn’t need a nightlight or a bedtime story. He simply closed his eyes and listened to the soft serenade of the ocean waves, knowing that somewhere out there, Melody and her friends were singing him – and all the children of the world – to sleep.
And as he drifted off, Wyatt smiled, dreaming of starfish dancing and dolphins leaping through a sea made of dreams.
