In a cozy burrow beneath an old oak tree lived a little hedgehog named Miles. Unlike other hedgehogs who collected leaves and twigs for their nests, Miles had a most unusual hobby – he collected rainbows.

Every time it rained, Miles would scurry out of his burrow, his tiny paws pattering on the damp grass. He’d wait patiently for the sun to peek through the clouds, and when it did, he’d dash off in search of rainbows.

Miles had a special backpack made from a folded maple leaf, held together with spider silk. In this backpack, he kept his collection of rainbow fragments – shimmering wisps of color that he’d carefully pluck from the sky.

One day, while out on his rainbow hunt, Miles met a sad-looking rabbit named Cottontail.

“Why so glum, Cottontail?” Miles asked, his quills quivering with concern.

Cottontail sighed, “Oh, Miles. The meadow flowers have all wilted, and now everything looks so dull and gray. I miss the bright colors of spring.”

Miles thought for a moment, then smiled. “I have just the thing to cheer you up!” He reached into his leaf backpack and pulled out a fragment of rainbow – a beautiful streak of red and orange that glowed like a sunset.

Cottontail’s eyes widened with wonder. “Oh my! It’s beautiful, Miles! But… how did you catch a rainbow?”

Miles giggled, “It’s not easy, but with practice and patience, anything is possible!”

From that day on, Miles and Cottontail became the best of friends. They would go on rainbow-hunting adventures together, Miles teaching Cottontail the art of rainbow catching.

As autumn approached, the forest began to look dreary. The leaves turned brown, and the sky often remained gray. Many animals felt gloomy, missing the vibrant colors of summer.

Miles had an idea. He gathered all his animal friends and said, “Let’s have a Rainbow Festival to bring color back to the forest!”

Everyone was excited about Miles’s plan. The squirrels helped hang Miles’s rainbow fragments from tree branches. The birds carried smaller pieces high into the sky, creating a dazzling display. Even the wise old owl lent his largest feathers to fan out the rainbow colors.

On the day of the festival, animals from all over the forest gathered in the clearing. As the sun peeked through the clouds, Miles’s rainbow collection burst into life, painting the entire forest in a spectacular array of colors.

The gloomy mood lifted instantly. Rabbits hopped joyfully through purple puddles, foxes chased each other under arches of green and blue, and even the grumpy badger couldn’t help but smile at the orange glow that warmed his usually dark den.

Miles watched with delight as his rainbow collection brought happiness to all his friends. He realized that the true magic of his hobby wasn’t in keeping the rainbows for himself, but in sharing their beauty with others.

From that day forward, whenever the forest felt a little too gray or the animals seemed a little too sad, Miles would organize another Rainbow Festival. And each time, he would add new fragments to his collection, making the display even more magnificent.

As Miles grew older, he began teaching other young animals how to catch rainbows too. He showed them how to be patient, how to look for the magic in everyday things, and most importantly, how to share that magic with others.

And so, the little hedgehog who collected rainbows became known as Miles the Rainbow Keeper, brightening the lives of all the forest creatures with his colorful gifts.

Every night, as the sun set and painted the sky in brilliant hues, the animals of the forest would gather to watch. And they would whisper to each other, “Look! Miles is collecting another rainbow for us.”

And Miles, hearing their happy whispers, would smile to himself, knowing that tomorrow would bring another day full of color and joy to share with his friends.

So remember, little ones, the next time you see a rainbow in the sky, think of Miles the hedgehog. And know that with a little imagination and a lot of kindness, you too can collect rainbows and brighten the world around you.
