Jade was a brave little girl with curly red hair and freckles sprinkled across her nose. She loved Halloween more than any other holiday, and this year, she was determined to visit the old house at the end of Maple Street that everyone said was haunted.
As the sun began to set on Halloween night, Jade put on her favorite witch costume, complete with a pointy hat and a broomstick. She grabbed her jack-o’-lantern bucket and skipped down the sidewalk, fallen leaves crunching beneath her feet.
When she reached the old house, Jade hesitated for just a moment. The wooden fence was crooked, and the paint was peeling off the walls. Cobwebs hung from the porch, and the windows seemed to stare at her like dark, empty eyes.
Taking a deep breath, Jade pushed open the creaky gate and walked up to the front door. She raised her hand to knock, but before she could, the door slowly swung open with a long, eerie creak.
“H-hello?” Jade called out, her voice echoing through the empty hallway. She took a few cautious steps inside, her heart pounding in her chest.
Suddenly, she heard a soft meow. A black cat with bright green eyes appeared from around the corner, its tail held high. The cat blinked at Jade and meowed again.
“Oh, hello there,” Jade said, kneeling down to pet the friendly feline. “I didn’t know haunted houses had cats!”
As she stroked the cat’s soft fur, Jade noticed a faint glow coming from the living room. Curious, she followed the cat as it trotted towards the light.
To her surprise, the living room was filled with friendly-looking ghosts, all gathered around a fireplace. They were roasting marshmallows and telling stories, their laughter sounding like wind chimes in a gentle breeze.
One of the ghosts, wearing a top hat, floated over to Jade. “Welcome, young witch!” he said cheerfully. “We’ve been waiting for a brave trick-or-treater to join our Halloween party!”
Jade’s eyes widened with wonder. “You mean… you’re not scary ghosts?”
The ghost chuckled. “Oh, no! We’re the Friendly Phantom Family. We just like to have fun on Halloween night!”
Relieved and excited, Jade joined the ghostly gathering. They played games like “Pin the Tail on the Werewolf” and “Ghost Tag,” where Jade could run right through her spectral playmates.
As the night went on, Jade learned that the house wasn’t haunted at all – it was just home to a group of kind-hearted ghosts who loved Halloween as much as she did.
When it was time for Jade to go home, the ghosts filled her bucket with special ghost candies that sparkled like starlight. The top-hat ghost escorted her to the door.
“Remember, Jade,” he said with a wink, “not everything that seems scary at first is actually frightening. Sometimes, the best friends are found in the most unexpected places!”
Jade waved goodbye to her new ghostly friends and skipped home, her heart light and happy. From that day on, she visited the “haunted” house every Halloween, knowing it was filled with laughter, fun, and the friendliest ghosts in town.
As she snuggled into bed that night, Jade thought about her amazing adventure. She realized that sometimes, the things we fear the most turn out to be the most wonderful surprises of all. And with that comforting thought, she drifted off to sleep, dreaming of her next Halloween with the Friendly Phantom Family.
The end.
