Every night, Jack’s grandmother tucked him in with a very special blanket. It was blue as the evening sky, soft as a cloud, and covered with tiny silver stars that seemed to shimmer in the lamplight.

“Nana,” Jack asked one sleepy Tuesday, “why does my blanket have a little golden ticket sewn in the corner?”

His grandmother’s eyes twinkled. “Ah! That’s because this isn’t just any blanket, my dear. This is your ticket for the Dream Blanket Express!”

“The Dream Blanket Express?” Jack sat up, suddenly very interested.

“Yes indeed,” Nana whispered. “But you can only board the train if you’re properly ready for bed. Teeth brushed?”

“Check!” said Jack.

“Pajamas on?”

“Double check!” Jack wiggled his toes in his rocket ship pajamas.

“Goodnight hugs given?”

Jack wrapped his arms around his grandmother. “Triple check!”

“Then tonight,” she said, pulling the blanket up to his chin, “you might just hear the whistle blow.”

After Nana left, Jack lay very still, listening. At first, he only heard the usual nighttime sounds—the tick-tock of the hallway clock, the swish of wind in the trees outside. But then…

Choo-choooooo!

It was distant and dreamy, like a whistle made of moonbeams!

The silver stars on Jack’s blanket began to glow. They lifted off the fabric and swirled around his room like fireflies, forming a glowing path that led right out his window—but not falling down, oh no! The path of stars went up into the night sky!

Jack’s bed began to rumble and shake. The posts sprouted wheels—big, gleaming train wheels! His headboard stretched into a magnificent engine with a smokestack that puffed clouds shaped like sleeping bears and snoring elephants.

“ALL ABOARD!” called a friendly voice.

A conductor appeared at Jack’s bedroom door. He was a tall, fuzzy creature who looked like a teddy bear in a smart blue uniform with shiny brass buttons.

“Conductor Cuddles at your service!” He tipped his cap. “Ticket, please!”

Jack touched the golden ticket sewn into his blanket. It glowed warmly.

“Perfect! Welcome to the Dream Blanket Express, Jack. Hold tight to your blanket—it’s your ticket, your passport, and your seatbelt all in one!”

The Dream Blanket Express lurched forward, rolling right off Jack’s bedroom floor and onto the glowing star-path. Up, up, up they climbed into the velvety night sky!

“First stop,” announced Conductor Cuddles, “the Pillow Cloud Station!”

The train pulled into a station made entirely of fluffy white clouds. Creatures of all kinds climbed aboard—a yawning lion cub, three sleepy rabbits in nightcaps, a drowsy dragon clutching a stuffed unicorn.

“Everyone on the Dream Blanket Express is heading to their special dream tonight,” explained Conductor Cuddles. “Where would you like your dream to take you?”

Jack thought hard. “I’d like to visit Dinosaur Valley! But… a friendly Dinosaur Valley.”

Conductor Cuddles stamped Jack’s golden ticket with a stamp shaped like a smiling T-Rex. “Dinosaur Valley it is! But we have a few more stops first.”

The train whooshed onward through the sky. They passed the Lullaby Mountains, where singing streams hummed gentle tunes. They crossed the Sea of Calm, where waves rocked back and forth in slow motion, making everyone yawn contentedly.

At the Giggle Grove station, three giggling otters bounced aboard.

“Those are the Dreamweavers,” whispered Conductor Cuddles. “They help add joy to everyone’s dreams.”

One otter bounded over to Jack and booped his nose. A warm, happy feeling spread through Jack’s chest like hot cocoa on a cold day.

The train chugged past the Worry Woods—but they didn’t stop there.

“We never stop at Worry Woods on the Dream Blanket Express,” Conductor Cuddles explained. “That’s the beauty of holding tight to your blanket. Worries can’t climb aboard.”

Jack pulled his special blanket a little closer and felt even safer.

“Next stop: Dinosaur Valley!” called the conductor.

The train descended through cotton-candy clouds and touched down in a lush green valley. But these weren’t scary dinosaurs—oh no! They wore pajamas too! A Triceratops in striped PJs waved hello. A Brachiosaurus in a nightgown was being tucked into an enormous leaf-bed by her mother.

“This is YOUR dream now, Jack,” said Conductor Cuddles. “The Dream Blanket Express has delivered you safely. Play as long as you like. When you’re ready to wake up, just whistle for the train—but most passengers are so comfortable in their dreams, they stay until morning.”

Jack spent what felt like hours (but was also somehow just a few minutes) playing with the dinosaurs. They had a midnight feast of gigantic cookies and milk. They played hide-and-seek among the volcanoes (which only erupted chocolate sauce). They told each other stories about their favorite adventures.

Finally, a gentle Stegosaurus named Stella said, “I think it’s time we all got some proper rest, even in our dreams.”

She led Jack to a cozy nest made of the softest ferns. As he snuggled down, Jack noticed his special blanket was still with him, glowing softly.

“Sweet dreams within dreams,” Stella whispered.

And Jack drifted into the deepest, most peaceful sleep…

When morning light peeked through Jack’s curtains, he stretched and yawned. He was back in his regular bed, but his blanket still sparkled just a little in the early sunshine.

At breakfast, Nana asked, “Did you sleep well?”

“Nana!” Jack exclaimed. “I rode the Dream Blanket Express! There was Conductor Cuddles, and the Pillow Cloud Station, and dinosaurs in pajamas!”

Nana smiled her knowing smile. “Sounds like you had quite the journey. And you did remember to brush your teeth and put on your pajamas first, didn’t you?”

“I did! That’s how I got my ticket!”

“Good,” said Nana, pouring him some orange juice. “Because you know what? The Dream Blanket Express runs every single night—but only for children who are properly ready for bed.”

That evening, Jack couldn’t wait for bedtime. He brushed his teeth extra thoroughly, put on his pajamas without being asked, and gave Nana the biggest hug yet.

As she tucked the special blanket around him, she whispered, “Where will you go tonight?”

“Maybe the Jungle of Friendly Cats,” Jack said thoughtfully. “Or the Castle of Chocolate Milk. Or the Beach Where It’s Always Just the Right Temperature!”

“Wonderful choices,” Nana said, kissing his forehead. “The Dream Blanket Express can take you anywhere. That’s the magic of bedtime—when you’re ready for sleep, adventure is ready for you.”

She turned off the light and closed the door most of the way, leaving it open just a crack so the hallway light made a cozy glow.

Jack snuggled deep into his blanket and closed his eyes, listening.

And there it was—distant but clear:

Choo-choooooo!

The Dream Blanket Express was coming.

And Jack, cozy and calm and ready for sleep, smiled as his bed began to rumble and the silver stars began to glow.

All aboard for another night of wonderful dreams.

The End

Sweet dreams, Jack. Sweet dreams, little readers. The Dream Blanket Express is waiting for you, too—right after you brush your teeth, put on your pajamas, and snuggle under your covers. All aboard!
