Jack was not an ordinary boy. Well, he looked ordinary—with sandy brown hair that stuck up in three directions and a collection of mismatched socks—but Jack had a very special secret. Every night when the moon rose high, his bathtub became a magical portal to the most wonderful places.

Tonight, as Jack climbed into the warm, bubbly water, something sparkly caught his eye. At the bottom of the tub, right next to his rubber duck named Admiral Quackers, was a shimmering silver seashell he’d never seen before.

“How curious!” Jack said, picking it up. The shell was cool and smooth, and when he held it to his ear, instead of ocean waves, he heard a tiny voice singing:

“Come below, come and see, The wonders of the Crystal Sea!”

Suddenly, bubbles erupted all around him—not regular bubbles, but rainbow bubbles that sparkled like diamonds! The bathtub began to spin gently, like a merry-go-round, and Jack felt himself sinking down, down, down…

But he wasn’t scared. Not one bit.

SPLASH! Jack found himself floating in the most magnificent underwater world he’d ever imagined. The water was perfectly clear, like liquid crystal, and he could breathe as easily as if he were standing in his own bedroom. All around him, towers of coral grew in impossible colors—not just pink and orange, but purple with golden stripes, and turquoise with silver polka dots!

“Welcome, Jack!” chirped a friendly voice.

Jack turned to see the most delightful little creature floating beside him. She looked like a seahorse, but she was made entirely of shimmering glass, and inside her translucent body, colorful lights twinkled like tiny stars.

“I’m Crystallina,” she said with a graceful bow. “I’ve been waiting for someone brave enough to answer the shell’s call. We need your help!”

“My help?” Jack asked, his eyes growing wide. “What’s wrong?”

Crystallina’s lights dimmed a little. “The Rainbow Pearl that lights our entire Crystal Sea has lost its glow. Without it, our world will fade away. But the pearl is hidden in the Whispering Caverns, past three challenges that only a clever surface-dweller like you can solve!”

Jack straightened up tall. He’d never been on a real quest before! “I’ll do my best,” he promised.

“Wonderful!” Crystallina’s lights sparked brightly again. “Climb on my back, and hold tight!”

Jack held onto Crystallina’s glassy dorsal fin, and off they zoomed through the crystal waters. They passed schools of fish that looked like swimming kaleidoscopes, and forests of kelp that chimed like wind chimes as they swayed.

Soon they arrived at an enormous cave entrance carved into a mountain of crystal. Above the entrance, words shimmered in flowing script: “Speak the magic word to enter.”

“Oh dear,” said Crystallina. “What could the magic word be?”

Jack looked around carefully. Then he noticed something peculiar—tiny hermit crabs were scuttling around the entrance, and each one carried a shell with a single letter on it. Jack watched them closely. The crabs weren’t moving randomly—they were making a pattern!

“P-L-E-A-S-E,” Jack spelled out, following their trail. “The magic word is PLEASE!”

The moment he said it, the cave entrance glowed golden, and the stone doors swung open wide.

“Brilliant!” cheered Crystallina, doing a little loop-de-loop in the water.

They swam into the cavern, where everything whispered and echoed. Jack could hear the walls talking to each other in soft, swooshy voices. They swam down a long tunnel that opened into a grand chamber with three doors.

The first door was red and had a riddle carved into it: “I have hands but cannot clap. I have a face but cannot smile. What am I?”

Jack thought hard, tapping his chin the way he did when he was figuring out tricky puzzles. “Hands… face… but not a person…” Then he remembered the clock in his bedroom! “A clock!” he exclaimed.

The red door clicked open.

The second door was blue and covered in buttons. A sign read: “Press the buttons in the order of a lullaby.”

Jack closed his eyes and thought of the lullaby his mom sang to him every night. “Twinkle, twinkle, little star…” He counted the syllables with his fingers, then pressed the buttons: tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap.

The blue door swung open with a cheerful chime.

The third door was different. It was silver and perfectly plain, with no riddle, no buttons, nothing at all. Jack and Crystallina floated there, puzzled.

“Maybe we have to knock?” Jack suggested. He reached out and gently knocked three times.

Nothing happened.

Then Jack remembered something his dad always told him: “When you don’t know what to do, try being kind.”

Jack placed his hand on the door and said softly, “Please, door, we really need to find the Rainbow Pearl to save the Crystal Sea. Would you please let us through?”

The door glowed warmly, and in swirly letters, words appeared: “Kindness is always the key.” The door dissolved into a shower of silver sparkles, revealing the final chamber.

And there, resting on a pedestal of white coral, was the Rainbow Pearl. Except it wasn’t glowing—it looked like a regular gray pebble, dull and sad.

“Oh no,” whispered Crystallina. “It’s worse than I thought.”

Jack swam closer to the pearl. He noticed something strange—tiny dark shadows were clinging to it, weighing it down. They looked like little wisps of smoke.

“These are worries and fears,” Crystallina explained. “They’ve covered the pearl’s light.”

Jack knew exactly what to do. At home, whenever he felt worried, his mom would remind him to think happy thoughts. So Jack cupped his hands around the pearl and closed his eyes.

He thought about his favorite things: the smell of fresh cookies, playing in autumn leaves, his mom’s hugs, his dad’s silly jokes, story time before bed, and dancing in the rain. He thought about all the wonderful things he’d seen tonight—the crystal waters, the kaleidoscope fish, and his new friend Crystallina.

Warm, golden light began to glow from between his fingers. The dark wisps dissolved like morning mist, and the Rainbow Pearl burst into brilliant, radiant color! Waves of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple light rippled out in all directions.

The entire Crystal Sea lit up! Jack could see the light spreading through the caverns, out into the ocean, illuminating everything with breathtaking beauty.

“You did it, Jack!” Crystallina spun around him joyfully, her glass body reflecting the rainbow light in a million directions. “You saved our world!”

All around them, crystal sea creatures appeared—translucent dolphins, glass octopi, and jeweled fish—all come to thank Jack. They danced and swirled around him in a magnificent underwater celebration.

But Jack was starting to feel sleepy, and Crystallina noticed him yawning.

“It’s time for you to go home,” she said gently. “But Jack, you’ll always be a hero of the Crystal Sea. Whenever you need us, just listen to the silver shell.”

She pressed something small and smooth into his hand—a tiny glass seahorse charm, an exact miniature of herself. “To remember me by,” she smiled.

Crystallina touched her nose to Jack’s cheek, and suddenly the rainbow bubbles were back, swirling all around him. Up, up, up he floated…

Jack blinked and found himself back in his bathtub. The water was still warm. Admiral Quackers bobbed cheerfully beside him. Had it all been a dream?

But when Jack opened his hand, there was the little glass seahorse charm, twinkling with inner light. He smiled the biggest smile.

His mom peeked her head in. “Ready for bed, adventurer?”

“Yes,” Jack said, climbing out and wrapping himself in his cozy towel. “But Mom? Tonight was a very special bath.”

His mom kissed his forehead. “The best adventures often are,” she said with a knowing wink.

Jack put the silver shell and the glass seahorse on his nightstand, right where he could see them. As he snuggled under his covers, he could have sworn he heard the tiniest voice singing:

“Sweet dreams, brave Jack, sleep tight, The Crystal Sea glows through the night!”

And with happy thoughts of underwater worlds and magical friends, Jack drifted off to sleep, already wondering where his bathtub might take him tomorrow.
